Teaching Gig
Though I’m more well-known in youth ministry circles, I’ve always been a strong proponent of public school education, as well. I taught school in Texas many years ago, coached softball and debate, and was even a principal for one year (though I didn’t like that much, and I wasn’t very good at it). I received my B.S.Ed. and M.S.Ed. from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and am all-but-dissertation on a Ph.D. in Education and Human Development from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
I currently teach at East Hickman High School, and I love my classes. I get the opportunity to teach honors English classes, which rocks. And I get to use my publishing background to teach a journalism class that produces the award-winning school newspaper I started there called The Eagle’s Eye.

Good call, Joe. Of all of the students involved, you alone can absolutely take credit for launching a brand new publication. Feels good, doesn’t it?

Mr. Penner it makes me smile that you mentioned our paper on here. Although, you would do well to remember that we also helped start the paper, haha. You did do most of the work though, so I’ll let you have that one.
